# MCP reference

Use Praised measurements and writing tools in your own client.

The Praised MCP server exposes measurement reads, evidence, work tools and writing checks to compatible clients. The published package is `@praisedco/mcp-server`.

## What the server provides

The setup requires a Praised workspace on a paid plan and a personal API key. The available operations depend on the key’s scope and the user’s access.

## Measurement tools

Core reads include `list_projects`, `get_project`, `get_coverage`, `get_reading`, `list_views`, `query_view`, `get_evidence`, `get_citations`, `get_benchmark`, `get_competitive_field`, `get_perception`, `get_hallucinations`, `get_trends` and `get_experiments`.

Reading tools use the newest final seven-day window unless another supported window is named. `as_of` selects its last day; `days` selects seven or thirty days.

## Work and writing tools

Work tools include `list_work`, `get_work_item`, `get_handoff`, `file_work`, `move_work`, `save_draft`, `get_verdicts`, `get_programme`, `get_next_moves` and `get_work_knowledge`.

Writing tools include `get_writing_pack`, `get_brief`, `list_formats`, `check_draft`, `get_piece_brief` and `get_grade`.

## Connect your client

Create a personal API key in Settings, select its scope and add the server in your MCP client using `npx -y @praisedco/mcp-server`. Supply the key through the `PRAISED_TOKEN` environment variable in the client’s configuration.

### Claude Code

In Claude Code, add the server with `claude mcp add praised --env PRAISED_TOKEN=<your personal API key> -- npx -y @praisedco/mcp-server`. Then `/mcp` in a session lists `praised` and its tools.

### Claude Desktop and other JSON clients

In Claude Desktop, open Settings › Developer › Edit Config and add `{"mcpServers": {"praised": {"command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@praisedco/mcp-server"], "env": {"PRAISED_TOKEN": "<your personal API key>"}}}}`. Cursor and other clients configured by JSON take the same entry. Restart the app, and the tools appear under the connectors menu.

## Key scopes

A personal API key does one of two things, chosen when you make the key: Read, or Read and file work.

Read covers every figure you can read, except the Owner-only settings and the audit log. Read and file work adds filing and moving work items, and only an Owner or an Editor can make a key with that scope.

No personal API key can change a figure, whatever an AI tool is told to do.

## Expiry and revocation

A key expires after 30, 90 or 365 days, chosen when you make the key. Praised shows the key once, when you make the key: copy the key then.

Revoke a key in Settings › Data & API › Personal API keys. A revoked key stops working everywhere within minutes.
