# Set up your first product

From sign-up to a first product being measured: the account, the brand, competitors, questions and engines.

Setting up a product is one guided flow: type your website, confirm what Praised read from the site, check the positions buyers search in, pick the questions to track, then start tracking. The first answers are asked as soon as tracking starts.

## Create your account

Sign up with your email address and a password of at least 8 characters. A workspace name is optional: without one, the workspace is named after your email address.

The person who signs up becomes the workspace admin, and a new account goes straight to setup.

To add a product later, open the account menu at the foot of the rail and choose Get started. Setup opens inside the console.

Set up later, at the top right of every step, leaves setup and opens the console.

## Step 1: your website

Type your website address. Praised reads the page and works out the brand, its category and likely competitors from it.

On a plan that can create client workspaces, this step also asks who the setup is for: your own brand, a client or a pitch.

## Step 2: the brand and its competitors

The next step writes one sentence from the site: the brand name and what buyers search for. Both are editable. Below the sentence are the competitors and the service area read from the site, and, for a new workspace, the time zone.

Read products from a feed lists products from a product feed address. Nothing is recorded until you pick them.

That’s us turns the name, the category, the competitors and the service area into the setup. Every later figure is measured against those competitors. Wrong site goes back to the first step.

## Step 3: where buyers look

One category holds several markets. This step shows the ways buyers narrow the category, such as a place, a kind of buyer or a use case. Correct anything wrong, because the questions are drafted from these positions.

Each position is measured on its own. A position marked not eligible is never asked about and never counted against the score. Looks right moves on.

## Step 4: the questions and engines

Pick the questions you want to win from the drafted list. Swap any, or type your own in the box under the list and press Enter.

The plan sets how many arrive ticked: 10 on Free and 18 on the paid plans, never more than the workspace has left of its tracked questions. You can tick up to 25, or the plan’s limit when that is lower.

Ticking a question starts its first answers at once, within the plan’s limits.

Asked in sets the markets the questions are asked in. Import a Search Console or keyword export adds that file’s questions to the list, unticked.

What is asked shows the engines the questions go to. They start from the plan’s default engines. On a plan with a choice of engines, pick them there; at least one stays on.

## Step 5: the live test

The next step asks your picked questions live and shows the result: whether the brand was named, which brands were named instead, and one answer with the pages it cited.

If the live test cannot be asked, the screen says why. Keep going continues the setup.

## Step 6: start tracking

On a paid plan, the last step sums up the questions, competitors and markets, and Start tracking begins the measurement.

On Free, the last step shows the plans. Choose Free to start tracking, or a paid plan to go to checkout.

When every product slot on the plan is in use, the setup is saved and waits. Free a slot by stopping measurement on a product you no longer track, or move up a plan, then start the product from the console.

On Free, the questions are asked each day for 7 days. Then the timeline pauses, and everything measured stays readable.

The Free timeline is one per account: a second workspace does not start a second one. Only a verified email address starts the Free timeline.

## What the first check does

Starting tracking saves the engines and asks the new questions’ first answers at once, within the plan’s limits. When they cannot be asked at once, the screen says when they are due.

The screen then counts what is stored: the questions tracked on their engines, how many first answers are in, and the first reading still to come.

There is no need to wait on the page. The questions are asked whether the page is open or not, and Nothing to wait for — go to the console leaves.

When setup finishes, This is your starting line shows the setup checklist and the first moves. Open your results goes to Visibility, where the first answers wait for the first reading.

The checklist has six items, each read back from what is stored and never ticked by hand: site read, competitors confirmed, competitor sites, questions tracked, first answers in and site audited.

After the first answers, each question is asked again on the plan’s schedule. The plan table lists the days between readings for each plan.

## When setup goes wrong

If the setup did not finish saving, nothing is tracked yet. Go back to the plan step and try again.

If tracking could not start, everything set up is kept. Open the console to carry on.

Change the tracked questions later on Prompts, and the brand, its products and the competitors on Brand & products.
