# Team members and roles

Invite people, accept an invite, choose a role, remove a member and hand over ownership.

Each person in a workspace holds one role: Owner, Editor or Viewer. An Owner invites people and sets their roles in Settings, under Access › Members.

## Open the member list

Open the account menu and choose Members, or open Settings and then Members under Access.

Every member can read the list of members and the open invites. Only an Owner can invite, change a role or remove someone.

## What each role may do

| Role | What the role may do |
| --- | --- |
| Owner | Everything an Editor may do, plus billing, API keys, members, alerts, engines and anything that spends |
| Editor | Reads everything and changes the workspace’s data. Cannot change billing, keys or engines |
| Viewer | Reads everything. Cannot change data and cannot spend |

The API holds a key to the same roles: a Viewer cannot spend through a key either.

A setting only an Owner may change stays on screen for everyone else, marked Owners only, with the reason beside the control.

## Invite a member

In Members, type the person’s email address, pick a role and choose Invite. The role picker starts on Editor.

Praised emails the person a join link. An invite lasts 7 days and works once.

Until the person joins, the invite is listed under “invited, not joined yet”, with the role it was sent with. Revoke withdraws the invite at once.

An invite to someone who is already in the workspace is refused.

Members belong to one workspace. To manage another workspace’s members, switch to that workspace first.

## Accept an invite

The join link opens a page that names the workspace and the invited email address.

A person new to Praised chooses a password of at least 8 characters, and may add a name. A person who already has a Praised account joins with that account.

Joining confirms the email address, because the link was sent to that inbox. Praised then opens the workspace.

A used or expired link reports that the invite is invalid or has expired. Ask an Owner to send a new invite.

## Change a role

An Owner changes a role with the picker on the member’s row. The change applies at once: Praised ends the member’s current sessions, and the next sign-in carries the new role.

A workspace always keeps at least one Owner. An Owner cannot demote themselves; another Owner has to make that change.

## Remove a member

Choose Remove on the member’s row. Their access ends immediately, not when their session would have expired.

Nobody can remove themselves, and the last Owner cannot be removed.

Removing a member does not revoke a workspace API key they made. Revoke that key under Settings › Access › API keys.

## Hand over ownership

Praised has no separate transfer step, and a workspace can have more than one Owner. To hand over, make the new person an Owner, then ask them to change your role.

## Seats and plans

Seats are not metered: every plan can invite the whole team.

Plans differ in tracked questions, engines and products, not in the number of members.

On Pro, Scale, Agency and Enterprise, an Owner can also set up single sign-on and SCIM for the workspace.

## When something goes wrong

When an invite email does not arrive, the invite is still stored. Revoke the invite and send a new one to the same address.

When the invite form is greyed out, the account is not an Owner’s. Ask an Owner of the workspace to send the invite.
