Visibility, mentions and recommendations

Understand what each headline figure measures.

Named rate measures how often an answer names the tracked brand. The calculation gives each tracked question equal influence. Asking one wording more often does not give that wording extra weight.

Named rate#

A name in an answer is a mention. It does not by itself mean the AI tool recommended the brand, cited an owned page or sent a visitor.

Share of voice#

Simple share of voice is the tracked brand’s weighted mentions divided by all weighted brand mentions in the selected answers. Names are deduplicated within each answer. Each question has equal influence even when its answers were collected different numbers of times.

With equally sampled questions, a brand named in 6 of the 20 brand mentions has 30% simple share of voice. The 20 counts brand mentions, not answers. This is an illustrative example.

Position-weighted share of voice also accounts for where brands appear. It is a different measure from simple share of voice; compare like with like.

Recommendation rate#

Recommendation rate measures answers that recommend the tracked brand. The naming and recommendation decisions are kept apart: an answer can name a brand without recommending the brand.

Branded questions#

Headline discovery measurements exclude questions that already name the tracked brand. Branded questions are read separately as knowledge about the brand, rather than counted as discovery visibility.
